The method comprises: a reader inputs certificate numbers and preset passwords of an own library card, and a book borrowing management system randomly generates a unique reservation number for the reader; after receiving a reservation request of the reader, the book borrowing management system prepares the required books of the reader, and places the books in an independent intelligent cabinet; the book borrowing management system encrypts an identification (ID) number of the intelligent cabinet, and generates the passwords for opening the intelligent cabinet; after receiving the passwords of the intelligent cabinet and a book claiming notice, the reader comes to the intelligent cabinet at a library, and opens the corresponding intelligent cabinet by using the passwords received in a mobile phone; after the intelligent cabinet is opened, the passwords in the step 3 are set to be invalid, and the reservation number and the ID number of the intelligent cabinet set in the step 2 are released to finish the self-service reservation book borrowing process; and if the reader does not take away the books from the intelligent cabinet, the passwords are set to be invalid, and the reservation number and the ID number of the intelligent cabinet are both released.
