Problems solved by technology

[0002] However, once the liquid is in the barrel body of a syringe, the measurement of such properties is not possible
Also, while measurements can be taken before the fluid is placed in the syringe, certain properties may change between when the measurement is made and when the fluid is actually injected into the patient
Therefore, healthcare providers and patients may not know with certainty whether the properties associated with liquid medications or contrast media are within acceptable limits

Embodiment Construction

[0022] The terms used in this specification are for the purpose of describing specific forms or embodiments only, and are not intended to limit the scope thereof.

[0023] The term "proximal" refers to a direction relatively closer to the clinician or automated system (e.g., an automatic syringe injector) using the devices described herein, while the term "distal" refers to a direction relatively farther away from the clinician. Or the direction of an automated system. For example, the end of the barrel (eg, the needle of the barrel) that is placed in the patient or within the barrel of the barrel is considered the distal end of the barrel, while the plunger end of the barrel is the proximal end of the barrel.

[0024] The present disclosure relates to syringes configured to sense information associated with liquid disposed within the syringe. In one embodiment, the syringe plunger and / or syringe plunger of the syringe may comprise one or more sensors arranged to measure one ...

Abstract

Syringe systems and flow control systems configured to detect information associated with a liquid material are described. The syringe systems may include a syringe body for housing the liquid material and an injector piston for expelling the liquid material out of the syringe through a discharge outlet at a distal end of the syringe body. Components of the syringe, such as an injector piston, may include sensors configured to measure and / or detect a property of the liquid material, such as concentration, pH, or radioactivity. The flow control system may include a pinch valve and a platen arranged about a fluid delivery channel. Flow within the fluid delivery channel may be controlled by increasing (squeezing the fluid delivery channel) or decreasing the distance between the pinch valve and the platen. Components of the flow control system may include detectors configured to detect properties of fluid in the fluid control channel.

Description

Background technique [0001] Syringes are used to deliver different types of liquid medications and contrast agents, such as drugs, saline solutions, and radiographic agents. A typical syringe includes a syringe body configured to contain liquid and a syringe plunger disposed within the syringe body. The syringe plunger provides a dispelling force as it passes through the barrel body, expelling fluid through a discharge port at a distal end of the barrel body. In many cases, one or more properties of a liquid drug or contrast agent, including concentration or radioactivity, must be within certain limits prior to delivery to the patient. For example, the property can be used to indicate the effectiveness of or determine an appropriate dose of a liquid drug or contrast medium. [0002] However, measurement of such properties is not possible once the liquid is in the barrel body of a barrel. Additionally, while measurements may be taken before the fluid is placed in the syringe...
