Embodiment Construction

[0065] First, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0066] A printer in an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0067] figure 1 is the front view of the printer. The printer is constructed as a dual printhead type serial printer with two printheads 3 and 4, the printhead 3 being used to represent the three main colors used for color recording: yellow (Y); magenta (M); Cyan (C), and another printhead 4 is used to represent black (BK). The two print heads 3 and 4 are detachably connected to the carriage 2 guided by the carriage shaft 5 . The carriage shaft 5 is horizontally suspended on the main frame 1 . By moving carriage 2 from left to right or vice versa, such as figure 1 As shown, the print heads 3 and 4 reciprocate relative to a recording medium (not shown) in the main scanning direction. As seen in the figure...

Abstract

The invention provides a printer in which its apparatus main body's width dimension can be minimized, by achieving compact housing of a maintenance station for performing maintenance operations with effective use of the space existing at both ends of a printing region. Therein, maintenance stations are separately arranged as left- and right-hand portions at both ends outside the printing region. The maintenance station provides: a capping mode for capping a nozzle of the printing head (3, 4); a wiping mode for wiping the nozzle of the printing head (3, 4); and an ink spitting mode for preventing clogging of the nozzle of the printing head (3, 4), and also the maintenance station includes a waste ink collecting bath (20a, 20b) for collecting ink discharged during the ink spitting mode.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a maintenance mechanism for an inkjet printer in which printing is performed by ejecting ink droplets onto a receiving medium. Background technique [0002] Inkjet printers generally have the following three operation modes: (1) capping operation mode; (2) cleaning operation mode; (3) printing operation mode. The capping operation prevents the printhead ink from drying and protects its nozzles. The cleaning operation consists of a wiping operation and a separation operation. The wiping operation is used to wipe and clean the nozzles to remove residual ink and foreign substances deposited on the nozzle surface of the print head, and the separation operation is used to discharge ink. The print operation mode is used for normal printing. [0003] Of the three modes of operation, the first two involve the maintenance required to properly operate the printer. Typically, a maintenance station incorporating a main...
