The invention relates to a foamable hot melt adhesive composition, method of foaming the foamable hot melt adhesive composition, and method of using the foamed hot melt adhesive composition. The foamed hot melt adhesive provides a reliable adhesion with high heat resistance for packaging applications. The present invention provides an environmentally and economically sound adhesive that provides sufficient adhesion to the packages upon which it is being applied.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION[0001]The present invention relates to foamable hot melt adhesive compositions and methods for assembling and sealing cases, trays and cartons.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION[0002]Hot melt adhesives are applied to a substrate while in a molten state and cooled to harden the adhesive layer. Such adhesives are widely used for various commercial and industrial applications including, to seal cardboard cases, bags, trays and cartons; and to bond laminates for nonwoven and foil articles. Some packaging applications require an adhesive to maintain a strong bond to a substrate under extremes of stress and shock in handling.
