The invention relates to a floodlight for a motor vehicle, in particular a headlight, comprising a multi-aperture projection display (10), which has a lighting means (1) and a planar image generator (3, 3', 6) and an array of projection lenses (4), wherein each projection lens (4) is associated with a segment (3, 3', 6) of the planar image generator (3, 6) such that, when the array is illuminatedby the lighting means (1), at least some of the segments (3, 3') are projected in front of the floodlight by the associated projection lenses (4) in order to produce at least one light distribution. The floodlight according to the invention is characterized in that predetermined segments (3') from the segments (3, 3') of the planar image generator (3, 3', 6) in one or more partial areas of the planar image generator (3, 3', 6) are designed and arranged in relation to each other in such a way that, when the lighting means (1) is switched off, a symbol arrangement (7) perceptible to an observeris presented on the planar image generator (3, 3', 6) at a viewing angle of the observer in a predetermined viewing angle range toward the floodlight, wherein the predetermined viewing angle range preferably comprises the viewing direction perpendicular toward the planar image generator (3, 3', 6).
