The invention also relates to a device for cooling recirculated exhaust gases, which is equipped with means for reversing the stream of recirculated gases inside the exchanger (4). The invention further relates to a method of recirculating exhaust gases, comprising a cleaning step consisting in cleaning the EGR system, which is triggered by an electronic unit and which includes a step consisting in reversing the stream of EGR gases flowing through an EGR cooling device.
