Embodiment Construction

[0063] To deal with any relative illumination phenomenon, the method according to the invention proposes two basic steps, various embodiments of which are described below.

[0064] The first step of the method according to the invention consists in determining the illuminants present during the capture of the scene visible on the digital image to be processed.

[0065] In a first example of implementing this step, a white balance estimation algorithm will be used.

[0066] In fact, a given light source corresponds to a spectral distribution according to wavelength. This means that certain wavelengths (thus more or less certain colors of visible objects) are represented, for example, between 400 nm and 800 nm, under certain light sources. For example, in tungsten illumination, for low color temperatures, radiometric quantities for wavelengths corresponding to blue in the field of view of visible objects are barely represented compared to measurements related to red wavelengths...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and to an associated system for processing digital images which intervenes at the level of any relative illumination phenomenon, including that of coloured relative illumination. Accordingly, the invention proposes that an illuminant of a photographed scene be taken into consideration so as to make appropriate modifications to any digital image to be processed.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention includes a method for processing the relative illuminance phenomenon on a digital image. The invention also relates to a processing system for such relative illuminance phenomena. The purpose of the present invention is primarily to propose a solution to the phenomenon of relative illumination, which is suitable for a new type of sensor in a digital image capture device. [0002] The field of the invention is that of digital photographs in general and, more specifically, of image processing applied to digital photographs. Digital photographs are photographs obtained by printing digital images. In general, digital images are composed of pixels, each pixel indicating a location and portion in image space, and each pixel having at least one pixel value. Images from all photographic devices, called "photographic images", are two-dimensional images in the sense that the image space is a rectangular section of the plane. However, especially i...
