Embodiment Construction

[0019] It should be understood from the outset that while the following provides an illustrative implementation of one or more embodiments, the disclosed system and / or method. The disclosure is in no way limited by the illustrative implementations, drawings, and techniques described below, including the exemplary designs and implementations shown and described herein, but may be limited to the maximum extent within the scope of the appended claims and equivalents. make changes within the scope.

[0020] Disclosed herein include methods and systems for optimizing IPv6 routing using components that do not support IPv6, such as IPv4 components. Methods include the PHoT procedure and the PCoT procedure, which allow the CN to verify the reachability of the MN's Home Address (HoA) and Care-of Address (CoA) (by using IPv4 signaling and optimized routing). Specifically, the PHoT and PCoT procedures can be performed between the MN's MAG and the CN or the CN's MAG.

Abstract

A network component comprising at least one processor configured to implement a method comprising promoting a optimization of a communications route associated with a mobile node (MN) and a correspondent node (CN) using Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) packets is disclosed. Also disclosed is a network comprising a mobility access gateway (MAG) in communication with a MN, and a CN in communication with the MAG and that desires to communicate with the MN, wherein a communications route between the MN and the CN is optimized using IPv4 signaling. Included is a method comprising promoting an optimization of a communications route between a MN and a CN using IPv4 signaling. Standalone CNs and CNs under a MAG embodiments are supported.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This patent application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 987,354, "PMIPv6 Routing Optimization Protocol," filed November 12, 2007, by Qin et al., and to 12 / 268,317, filed November 10, 2008 US Patent Application "IPv4 Support Proxy Mobile IPv6 Routing Optimization Protocol" priority. These applications are hereby incorporated by reference as if reproduced in their entirety. Background of the invention [0003] In modern wireless access networks, Mobile Nodes (MNs) allow users to move freely between access points without users needing to configure MNs for each access point. To be precise, when a MN reaches the coverage limit of an access point, the access point will handover the MN to an adjacent access point, usually without interrupting the service of the MN. In IPv6 networks, a procedure known as Proxy Mobile IPv6 defines a relatively methodical and efficient network-based method to handov...
