Embodiment Construction

[0030] see figure 1 , a diagram depicting a particular illustrative embodiment of modifying the transmission rate to accommodate network congestion, and generally designated 100 . Graph 100 depicts the emission rate of an emitter as a function of time. Initially, the transmitter sends data at a first transmission rate 101 . The feedback message may be received at the transmitter, as indicated at 102 . The feedback message contains an amount of congestion of the transmitting network and an indication of a sustainable rate 108 of data transmission at a receiver receiving data from the transmitter. When the congestion magnitude satisfies the threshold, the decongestion rate 110 and the decongestion time 112 may be determined based on at least one of the data transmission sustainable rate 108 and the congestion magnitude. After determining the congestion magnitude and data transmission sustainable rate 108 , data may be sent from the transmitter to the receiver at the deconges...

Abstract

In a particular embodiment, a method is disclosed that includes receiving, at a transmitter, a feedback message that includes a magnitude of congestion at a receiver and an indication of a sustainable rate of data transmission. The method also includes determining a decongestion rate and a decongestion time based on at least one of the data transmission sustainable rate and the congestion magnitude when the congestion magnitude satisfies a threshold. The method further includes sending data from the transmitter to the receiver at the decongestion rate during the decongestion time. The method also includes adjusting a data transmission rate at the transmitter to the data transmission sustainable rate after the decongestion time expires.
