Problems solved by technology

[0007] The problem with existing solutions is that it unnecessarily restricts the B-VID assignment of ESPs connecting the same two CBPs

Embodiment Construction

[0020] The present invention is a system and method for demultiplexing PBB-TE service instances. The present invention utilizes complete ESP 3-tuples in CBP to demultiplex CFM frames.

[0021] figure 2 Operation of BEB 40 receiving ESP 50 and ESP 52 in a preferred embodiment of the present invention is shown. Two incoming ESPs share the same B-SA and B-VID parameters, but have different B-DA (i.e., B-DA 1 and B-DA 2 ). In this case, the full ESP ID (ie, the full ESP 3-tuple) allows demultiplexing, allowing MEPs to differentiate CCMs arriving at different ESPs 50 and 52 . PBP 54 and CBP 56 are described during demultiplexing. Each ESP allows CCM transmissions to different destinations 58 and 60 by utilizing the full ESP ID.

[0022] Currently, IEEE 802.1Qay / D2.0 (Draft Standard for Virtual Bridged LAN: Provider Backbone Bridging Service Engineering) discusses demultiplexing CCM per B-VID, B-SA. Section 6.19 of the P802.1Qay / D2.0 draft defines the TE service instance mul...

Abstract

A system and method of demultiplexing Provider Backbone Bridging Traffic Engineering, PBB-TE, service instances. The method is used when monitoring service instances (500) between a first bridge port and a second bridge port by exchanging CFM frames over each service instance. The CFM frame is received by the second bridge port where the complete ESP - 3-tuple is demultiplexed (504). The CCM frames may be.demultiplexed by a Full Traffic Engineering Service Instance Multiplex Entity which demultiplexes both the source address value and destination address value of the CCM frames.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to communication networks, and more particularly to communication networks demultiplexing Provider Backbone Bridging Service Engineering (PBB-TE) instances. Background technique [0002] The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Provider Backbone Bridging Service Engineering defines how to support the provisioning of explicit selection of service engineering paths within a Provider Backbone Bridge network by allowing network operators to disable unknown destination address forwarding and source address learning system. In addition, provider backbone bridging service engineering extends connectivity fault management to support provisioned paths. [0003] PBB-TE defines point-to-point and point-to-multipoint service instances. A point-to-point PBB-TE service instance consists of two unidirectional point-to-point basic connection units, one for each direction, called an Ethernet switched path (E...
