Embodiment Construction

[0036] Various embodiments of the invention are discussed in detail below. While specific embodiments have been described, it should be understood that this is done by way of illustration only. Other components and configurations may be utilized by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

[0037] Ethernet has increasingly become a pervasive technology used in a variety of environments (eg, twisted pair, master). IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) continues to evaluate various methods for reducing energy used during periods of low link utilization. During this process, a protocol can be defined to facilitate transitions to and from low power modes in response to changes in network requirements.

[0038] In summary, the reduction of subrates from the link rate to the main rate reduces power and thus saves energy. In one example, the subrate is the zero rate that yields the greatest power savings.

[0039] One example o...

Abstract

The invention relates to an ethernet method and a method applied in the ethernet. A system and method for enabling fallback states for energy efficient Ethernet (EEE). EEE devices can be designed to support multiple power saving states that impact layers higher than the PHY layer. Typically, these higher levels of power savings would require a greater period of time to accommodate a return to an active state. In a dynamic negotiation process, the receiving device can advertise multiple fallback power saving states to the transmitting device. The transmitting device's allocation of buffering can then determine which of the power saving states would be supported.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to energy efficient ethernet (energy efficient ethernet, EEE), and more particularly, to a method and system for implementing a fallback state of the EEE. Background technique [0002] In recent years, the cost of energy has gradually increased, showing an increasing trend. In this context, various industries have become increasingly sensitive to the impact of rising costs. One area that's getting more and more scrutiny is IT infrastructure. Many companies are looking at the energy usage of their IT systems to determine if they can reduce energy costs. To this end, industries concerned with energy-efficient networking have addressed the rising cost of IT equipment used as a whole (ie, computing equipment, displays, printers, servers, networking equipment, etc.). [0003] In the design of energy efficiency solutions, one of the considerations is the file model (profile) on the network link. For example, many network lin...
