Embodiment Construction

[0028] RAID devices and VTL devices are very similar in organizational structure: they use almost the same hardware devices and external communication interfaces, and both utilize server architecture. However, their application directions are different: RAID disks can be accessed directly, while VTL devices are mainly used for backup and recovery. In order to form a fault-tolerant mechanism for VTL devices, VTL software often virtualizes RAID disks as VTL devices for disk protection. Together with a large physical tape library, the VTL device can realize the physical archiving or tape buffering function to the physical tape library. At this time, as an intermediate device, the capacity of the VTL device is not the application bottleneck. Based on the considerations above, the present invention uses a server architecture to integrate RIAD functions and VTL functions on storage devices, and first map all RAID disks through RAID management software; then, users directly use some ...

Abstract

The invention provides storage equipment, comprising an RAID (Redundant Array Of Inexpensive Disk), a RAID driver, a physical disk, a fiber channel (FC)/internet small computer system interface (iSCSI) target end and a VTL (Virtual Tape Library) management module, wherein the RAID disk is divided into two parts, the first part is applied to an RAID function, and the second part is applied to a VTL function; the FC/iSCSI target end is used for receiving a read-write access command from an RAID client and forwarding the read-write access command to the first part of the RAID disk; after the read-write access is completed, the FC/iSCSI target end reports a completion condition to the RAID client; the FC/iSCSI target end is also used for receiving a command from a VTL client and forwarding the command from the VTL client to the VTL management module; and the VTL management module is used for converting the command forwarded by the iSCSI/FC target end into a presentation format of a magnetic tape unit and sending the command of the presentation format of the magnetic tape unit to the second part of the RAID disk.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of computer storage, in particular to a storage device having functions of a redundant array of independent disks (RAID, Redundant Array of Independent Disks) and a virtual tape library (VTL, Virtual Tape Library) and the realization of the VTL on the RAID device method of function. Background technique [0002] RAID technology was proposed by the University of California, Berkeley in 1987. It was originally developed to combine small, cheap disks to replace large, expensive disks, and to develop a certain level of data protection technology without losing access to data when disks fail. RAID is a redundant array composed of multiple cheap disks, which appears as an independent large storage device. RAID has the advantages of being able to give full play to multiple hard disks. It can increase the speed of the hard disk, increase the capacity, provide fault tolerance, ensure data security, and be ea...
