Embodiment Construction

[0041] I. Headband fabric structure

[0042] As will be appreciated, embodiments of the present invention provide headgear fabrics and devices that are fabricated from materials that exhibit comfort and flexibility to the wearer, while providing stability and integrity to the headgear device.

[0043]Different embodiments of the headgear are manufactured from different layers of material. Depending on the section or portion of the headgear, the layers may or may not vary. Referring to FIG. 2 (not to scale), there is shown a medical headgear fabric 200 comprising: a skin-facing fabric layer 206 ; a foam layer 208 ; a rigid material layer 210 ; and an outer fabric layer 212 . The skin-facing fabric layer includes a skin-facing surface 202 (reference number 201 indicates the skin, scalp or other part of the patient that the fabric will face or contact). The skin-facing layer can be made of any soft, skin-comfortable fabric. The fabric may also exhibit stretch, elasticity and / o...

Abstract

A medical headgear fabric that includes, at least: (i) a skin-facing fabric layer; (ii) an outermost fabric layer; and (iii) a plastic or metal layer located between the fabric layers. Preferably these layers, as well as any additional layers that may be present in the fabric are thermoformed to form a substantially unitary fabric with at least a substantially laminate structure. Preferably, the fabric also includes a foam layer located between the fabric layers. Preferably, in embodiments with a layer (iii) of plastic, the plastic layer is in the form of a nylon, plastic strip. Preferably, in embodiments with a layer (iii) of metal, the metal layer is in the form of an aluminum strip.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to the following U.S. Provisional Patent Applications: 61 / 056,924, filed May 29, 2008, 61 / 056,917, filed May 29, 2008, and 61 / 056,913, the above-mentioned related patent documents are hereby incorporated by reference in their entireties into this application. technical field [0002] The invention relates to a medical headband fabric, in particular to a headband for treating sleep apnea. Background technique [0003] The medical headgear used to treat respiratory diseases (such as sleep apnea) varies with the nature and degree of the condition. In some conventional sleep apnea headgear designs, the headgear is fabricated from a material having a rigidity intermediate between pliable and bendable, where this "rigidity" is the same as hereinafter The definition of "rigid" is different as described in the "Definitions" section of . Figure 1 shows a partial cross-sectional exploded view of a conventional sleep apnea headgear fabric 100, ...
