Abstract

Devices and methods for improving the function of heart valves, such as the aortic valve, are disclosed. In one embodiment, the device includes an insertion member configured for insertion between leaflets of the aortic valve. The insert member preferably comprises three radial arms extending outwardly from a central portion. The device also includes an anchoring member coupled to the insertion member and configured to retain the insertion member within the heart valve. When working, each arm fills the gap between the leaflets of the heart valve, thereby minimizing or preventing regurgitation through the heart valve.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application, the filing date of the original application is May 31, 2007, the application number is 200780020260.3 (PCT / US2007 / 070141), and the title of the invention is "artificial insert for improving heart valve function". [0002] Cross References to Related Applications [0003] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 810,085, filed June 1, 2006, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0004] The present disclosure relates to the field of implantable cardiac prosthetics and, in particular, to cardiac prosthetic inserts for reducing regurgitation through heart valves, such as the aortic valve, and to methods of implanting cardiac prosthetic inserts . Background technique [0005] Heart valve regurgitation, or leakage from the outflow side of a heart valve to the inflow side, is a condition that occurs when a heart valve fails to close properly. Heart val...
