Abstract

The invention discloses a load sharing method and a router under a hierarchical virtual dedicated local area network service (HVPLS) environment. A UPE (User Provider Edge Router) is directly connected with a plurality of NPEs (Network Provider Edge Routers), the NPEs are mutual backups to form an NPE backup group, and the UPE and a plurality of U-PWs (User-Pseudo Wires) among the NPEs form a U-PW backup group. The method comprises the steps of: receiving an unknown source MAC (Medium Access Control) address message sent by a direct-connected CE (Custom Edge) by the UPE, learning a source MAC address of the message, establishing an MAC entry, selecting one U-PW from the U-PW backup group, recording the U-PW identification in a U-PW identification item of the MAC entry, forwarding the message from the selected U-PW; and receiving a unicast data message sent by the direct-connected CE by the UPE, searching the U-PW identification corresponding to the source MAC address of the message from the self-established MAC entry, and forwarding the message from the U-PW corresponding to the U-PW identification. The invention realizes load sharing under an HVPLS environment, thus the bandwidth utilization rate is increased.
