Embodiment Construction

[0046] The invention is primarily suitable for use as a poultry feeder and will be described hereinafter with reference to this application. It should be understood, however, that the invention is not limited to this particular field of use.

[0047] The invention is described below by way of example with reference to the best mode of carrying out the invention known to the applicant.

[0048] The applicant has recognized that a significant problem with prior art poultry feeders arises from competition for food by the poultry. This results in a smaller number of dominant birds consuming relatively larger portions of food (and above the optimum value for maximizing overall feed conversion ratio) and gaining above-average weight. There is then usually also a large number of birds that do not receive a sufficient portion of the feed and thus do not reach their target weight.

[0049]The applicants have discovered that several reasons for this competition are addressed, or at le...

Abstract

A feeder is provided, in particular for feeding poultry, comprising a polygonal feeding pan defined by a base and a plurality of side walls depending from the base. The side walls define an outer peripheral edge of the feeder having a plurality of substantially straight outer edges. The feeder provides increased feeding space and feed volume with respect to a circular feeder having a radius equal to the apothem of the polygonal feeding pan.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to feeders for supplying pellets or other food to poultry. More particularly, the present invention relates to poultry feeders suitable for feeding food to poultry that matures day by day. Background technique [0002] Items such as poultry feeders are known and are usually located in feeding areas where poultry are kept for meat production or breeding purposes. Prior art feeders are generally circular in shape to allow multiple birds to congregate around the feeder. Oval feeders can also be used. [0003] It is important to control the rate of feed supply and consumption, thereby controlling the growth rate of the poultry to ensure consistent product (ie, egg or chick) size. For example, a chick must weigh at least 1600 grams to be sold as a size 16 chick. If a poultry farmer receives an order for 1000 chicks of size 16 and is unable to supply 1000 chicks weighing 1600-1699 grams, multiple chicks of size 17 (i.e. 1700...
