Problems solved by technology

For example, if media guide data is updated every two days, a conventional system that adjusts the updating of scheduled records based on the media guide data will not be able to update the schedule of records based on events that occur during the day.
For example, a legacy system would not be able to update the schedule of records at any interval shorter than a two-day update interval

Embodiment Construction

[0034] Systems and methods are described that address shortcomings in conventional media systems via novel techniques to update schedule record lists for multiple instances in a collection of media assets associated with a competition based on competition rules and competition results for instances of the media assets. The systems and methods may be implemented via an interactive media guidance application running on a user device, a remote server, or other suitable device. An interactive media guidance application may be partially implemented on multiple devices, such that some portions of the interactive media guidance application execute on one device while other portions of the interactive media guidance application execute on another device.

[0035] In any given content delivery system, the amount of content available to users can be large. Accordingly, many users desire a form of media guidance through an interface that allows users to efficiently navigate content selec...

Abstract

Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in the conventional media systems via a novel technique to update a list of scheduled recordings for a plurality of instances in a set of media assets. The plurality of media assets in the set of media assets may be related to the same competition. The list of scheduled recordings may be generated based on a user's request to schedule recordings for instances of media assets in which a participant of interest to the user may appear. The updating of the list of scheduled recordings is conditioned based on one or more competition rules determined for the set of related media assets. For example, the systems and methods may determine that the set of media assets are related to a play-off competition where a participant is eliminated from the play-off competition when the participant loses any two games of the competition.

Description

Background technique [0001] Traditional media systems process information in media guidance data that is periodically received and updated from media service providers. Some conventional systems process periodically updated media guide data in order to update a program's schedule record by determining the presence of key terms in the media guide data. For example, these traditional media systems search the updated media guidance data for the name of the party of interest and update the schedule record based on the presence or absence of that name in the updated media guidance data. These conventional systems are only capable of scheduling or canceling future recordings based on whether a participant appears in the media guide data for a future scheduled program. Furthermore, the scheduling and updating of these records depends on the interval at which the media guidance data is updated. For example, if media guidance data is updated every two days, a conventional system that...
