Description
technical field [0001] The present invention relates to chelate compounds and their use as contrast agents in magnetic resonance procedures. Background technique [0002] Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging technique in which regions of the body can be visualized via the nuclei of selected atoms, especially hydrogen nuclei. The MRI signal depends on the environment surrounding the visualized nucleus and its longitudinal and transverse relaxation times, termed T1 and T2, respectively. Thus, where the visualized nuclei are protons, the MRI signal intensity will depend on factors such as proton density and the chemical environment of the protons. [0003] Contrast agents that include paramagnetic metal ions in their chemical structure can be used in MRI to improve imaging contrast. They work by affecting the relaxation time and thus the contrast in the image. Contrast agents comprising the paramagnetic metal ion Gd(III) are well known and include the commer...
