The insulator comprises a wire clamp, a ground wire side electrode unit, a ground wire insulator, a grounding side electrode unit, an insulating installation sleeve, a transmission unit, a distance measurement baffle plate, a distance measurement instrument, a solar cell unit, and a remote control unit; the distance of a gap of the power transmission line ground wire insulator is adjusted, the gap is short-circuited in thunderstorm seasons, so that reliable grounding of a ground wire can be ensured; and in an icing period, the gap is pulled open to realize insulation of the ground wire. The solar cell unit obtains electric energy and then transmits the electric energy to the remote control unit; the transmission unit and the solar cell unit are both connected with the remote control unit; the middle of a grounding side electrode rod piece is slidably arranged in a supporting sleeve; and the remote control unit controls the transmission unit to move horizontally; and the transmission unit is connected with the grounding side electrode unit, so that the transmission unit can drive the grounding side electrode rod piece to horizontally move so as to adjust the distance of the gap, and manual adjustment is not needed.
