[0038] Receivers used to detect and recover direct sequence spread spectrum signals are generally equipped with means to detect the transmitted signal and restore the received signal form to substantially baseband frequency signals. The received spread spectrum signal is then compressed. For this purpose, the receiver is equipped with means for synchronizing the locally generated reference code with the spreading code of the received signal. Figure 1 shows a circuit block diagram of an acquisition circuit used to acquire code synchronization. In FIG. 1 , the received spread spectrum signal is sent to the variable delay device 1 through the wire 2 . A delayed received signal of one form is then fed from variable delay 1 to a first input of scaled multiplier 3 .
