Abstract

The invention includes methods for treating tobacco addiction and nicotine addiction of patients, alleviating nicotine withdrawal symptoms, providing or promoting curative effect of smoking cessation treatment and as long-term smoking cessation maintenance treatment. The invention also relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a nicotine receptor antagonist and an antidepressant or an anxiolytic. A specific combination of drugs (mecamylamine hydrochloride and bupropion hydrochloride) and a pharmaceutical composition formed by combining mecamylamine with certain types of drugs (such as anxiolytics and antidepressants) are disclosed. These compositions are also contemplated for use in the treatment of cocaine addiction and the treatment of alcohol dependence.
