Abstract

A method of creating a playlist for audio data file identification using audio clips (ie predetermined or selectable segments or portions of audio content from an audio data file). The user can select the attributes of the audio clip, such as the length of the playing time, the audio file part, the audio file classification, the data in the ID3 tag, etc. The user interface allows the user to add identification data representing audio data files associated with the audio clips to the playlist. The method can be applied to all types of devices that play back audio content from a plurality of stored audio content. Specifically, the method includes playing back an audio segment from each of a set of audio data files during playback of the audio segment. During playback of a particular audio segment, the user can add selections to a playlist. Specifically, in response to user input, identification data representative of the audio file associated with the currently playing audio segment is added to the playlist. The user interface allows a single button or control to add content to a default, currently selected, or selectable playlist.
