Abstract

The present invention relates to a surface light source device and a display device. The surface light source device for illuminating a display member of a display has first and second light guide plates stacked with a low-refractive layer interposed therebetween. The side edge on the light entrance side of one light guide plate is on the opposite side to the other, and the light emergence surface of the first light guide plate faces the back of the second light guide plate with a low-refractive layer. In each light guide plate, from the light entrance side to the far end side, a light emergence suppression region, a light emergence gradual increasing region, and a light emergence promoting region are formed. Though each light source group is composed of at least two point light sources outputting lights with different colors, the lights with different colors are mixed in the light emergence suppression region to prevent the output of light with non-uniform color phase from the emergence surface of the second light guide plate.
