Embodiment Construction

[0052] In the following description, the case of overlay SMS on an AN including an Evolved Packet Core EPC will be considered more particularly as an example to which the present invention is applicable. It should be understood, however, that the present invention is not limited to such examples.

[0053] In an embodiment, the present invention provides that the MME knows that the SM was not delivered successfully, then the MME sets a flag for the UE such that the presence of the UE in E-UTRAN is detected via eg most NAS (Non Access Stratum) messages from the UE A notification (such as a Ready-For-SM message) to the HLR / HSS will be triggered. When the MME sends a notification, it resets its own internal flag for that UE.

[0054] Because the EPC architecture includes the interface between the MME and the HLR / HSS (S6a), it is recommended to reuse this interface to let the MME know that the SM was not delivered successfully.

[0055] Also optionally, when the SM has been succe...

Abstract

One object of the present invention is a method for the management of Short Message SM delivery in a mobile communication system comprising an Overlaying, e.g. IP-based or CS fallback in Evolved Packet System based, SM delivery network accessed via a mobile or fixed Access Network AN which is transparent to the Overlaying SM Delivery procedure, said method comprising the steps: - informing an AN entity capable of detecting User Equipment UE activity over said AN, of unsuccessful SM delivery attempt due to not reachable UE, - upon detection of UE activity over said AN for said UE, said AN entity informing an entity in charge of requesting new SM delivery attempt when said UE is again reachable.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to mobile communication networks and systems. Background technique [0002] Detailed descriptions of mobile communication networks and systems can be found in documents, in particular technical specifications, published by standardization bodies such as 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). [0003] In such systems, a mobile station (MS) or user equipment (UE) accesses mobile services through an access network (AN). An access network (AN) generally includes a radio access network (RAN) and a core network (CN). [0004] There are different types of RANs based on different types of radio access technologies, such as: GSM / GPRSRAN (also known as GERAN), UMTS RAN (also known as UTRAN), LTE RAN (also known as E-UTRAN), WLAN, WIMAX, ...and many more. [0005] Different types of mobile services can be provided to end users, such as in particular CS (Circuit Switched) based services, PS (Packet Switched) based ser...
