[0039] see Figure 1A , shows a high-level block diagram of the personal device 1 with representative environmental elements. The device 1A has a display 2, a pair of headphones 3 and a control interface 4, such as a keyboard. The device 1A stores or receives test protocols 5 activated by the individual user 6 through the control interface 4, and then engages in listening interaction with the responding user 6, as explained below. Generating a personalized auditory profile as explained below, which is stored (S) locally in device 1A or in a removable storage device (thumb drive or non-volatile memory card) 7, Alternatively stored remotely in a remote analysis and storage system 8A accessible via telecommunication link 8B. The personalized auditory profile is used on the same or a similar device 1B to modify the audio signal output to the same earphone 3 or speaker 9 . The audio signal output is based on the input of the programming material 11 whose frequency-dependent and t...

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for capturing hearing signatures including loudness tolerance levels at different sound frequencies from self-administered audiometry or from professionally administered audiometry as a personalized auditory profile that automatically enhances audio to maximize Compensate and address hearing impairments of individuals. Users can self-administer the audiometry on a suitable personal device such as a smartphone. The system includes the ability to capture environmental profiles. The user's hearing is protected from damage through enhanced audio settings, and there is an option for an "enhanced hearing" experience. The present invention is useful to any individual seeking to enhance the hearing experience, whether the individual's hearing is within the normal range or has been impaired. Therefore the system can be used in hearing aids.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application incorporates Ser. Nos. 61 / 371,068, filed August 5, 2010, and 61 / Subject of co-pending provisional application No. 379,237. [0003] Statement Concerning Rights to Inventions Made Under Federally Sponsored Research and Development [0004] Not applicable [0005] Refer to Sequence Listing, Table, or Computer Program Listing Appendix submitted on CD-ROM [0006] Not applicable technical field [0007] The present invention is directed generally to the fields of audiology and digital sound engineering, and more particularly to systems and methods for enhancing user experience based on personalized auditory profiles. Background technique [0008] Hearing loss has been estimated to be the most common disability in developed countries. Indeed, millions of people around the world suffer from hearing impairment, many of whom are unaware of their hearing loss. Decreased hearing ability can be caused by m...
