Embodiment Construction

[0062] see Figure 1A , shows a high-level block diagram of the personal device 1 with representative environmental elements. The device 1A has a display 2, a set of headphones 3 and a control interface 4, such as a keyboard. The device 1A stores or receives a test scenario 5 activated by its individual user through the control interface 4, which then interacts with the listening of the responding user as explained below. A personalized audiology profile as described below is generated and stored locally in the device (S) 1A, or on a removable storage device (thumb drive or non-volatile memory card) 7, or remotely on a Remote analysis and storage system 8A accessed by telecommunications link 8B. The personalized audiological profile is used on the same or similar device 1B to modify the audio signal output to the same earphone 3 or to the loudspeaker 9 . The audio signal output is based on the input of the programming material 11, the frequency-dependent and time-dependent ...

Abstract

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for deriving hearing characteristics, including loudness tolerance levels at different sound frequencies, from self-administered hearing tests as a personalized shaped hearing profile for automatically enhancing audio, thereby compensating as closely as possible and address hearing deficits experienced by individuals through a specific signaling pathway that includes audio equipment for administering the test, the sound environment, and the hearing abilities of the user who self-administers the hearing test on a convenient personal device such as a smartphone. The shaped auditory profile can then be used to generate enhanced sounds that are then delivered to the individual via the same signaling pathway. In some of its aspects, the present invention is useful to any individual seeking an enhanced hearing experience, whether individuals with normal range hearing or individuals with impaired hearing.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to Provisional Application No. 61 / 750,779, filed January 9, 2013. Background technique [0003] The present invention relates generally to the fields of audiology and digital sound engineering, and more particularly to systems and methods for enhancing user experience based on personalized hearing profiles. [0004] Hearing loss has been assessed as the most common disability in developed countries. In fact, millions of people around the world are hearing impaired, many of whom are unaware of their hearing loss. Decreased hearing ability can be caused by many factors including age, health, occupation, injury, and disease. Hearing loss can lead to a significant reduction in quality of life, impaired relationships, reduced employment opportunities, and reduced productivity. Different types of hearing loss and related conditions can affect people's daily activities in different ways, espe...
