The image processing apparatus includes an arrangement determination unit configured to determine whether an arrangement of sub-pixels forming pixels of a display screen is a first arrangement in which a short dimension of the sub-pixels is arranged so as to be in a horizontal direction of the display screen, or a second arrangement in which a long dimension of the sub-pixels is arranged so as to be in the horizontal direction of the display screen, a disparity determination unit configured to determine a disparity of the determined sub-pixel arrangement, and an image generation unit configured to generate one or two or more images of other viewpoints that are different to a viewpoint of an image represented by the image signal.
