Problems solved by technology

Other occlusion detectors include pressure sensors on the patient circuit after the pumping mechanism, which have little sensitivity due to factors such as tubing line compliance
In some cases, the lack of occlusion detection at the onset of such occlusions results in high glucose plasma concentration

[0036] micro pump

[0037] like figure 1 The micropump 1 shown in is a highly miniaturized and reciprocating diaphragm pumping mechanism. It is manufactured from silicon and glass using a technology known as MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems). It contains the inlet control element, here the inlet valve 2 , the pumping diaphragm 3 , the function detector 4 allowing the detection of various faults in the system and the outlet valve 5 . The principle of such a micropump is known from the prior art, eg from US5759014.

[0038] figure 1 The pump is shown with a glass layer (blue) as substrate 8, a silicon layer (purple) as second plate 9 affixed to substrate 8 and a second glass layer 10 as top plate affixed to silicon plate 9 ( blue), thus defining a pumping chamber 11 with a volume.

[0039] An actuator (not shown here) connected to a bench top transistor 6 enables controlled displacement of the pumping diaphragm 3, there is also a slot 7 to connect the outlet control...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for detecting abnormality of at least one function of an infusion assembly. The infusion assembly comprises pumping equipment comprising a pump (1), wherein the pumping equipment further comprises a pumping chamber (11), an inlet (2), an outlet (5), an actuator, a fluid path, a pressure sensor (4) and a processing device, wherein the pumping chamber (11) has the variable volume, the inlet (2) is communicated with the pumping chamber (11) and comprises a valve, the outlet (5) is communicated with the pumping chamber and comprises a valve, the actuator is suitable for changing the volume of the pumping chamber, the fluid path comprises the inlet (2), the pumping chamber (11), the outlet (5) and a downstream pipeline (7) located on the downstream of the valve of the outlet, the pressure sensor (4) is used for measuring pressure between the path and the valves, and the processing device is used for processing pressure data received from the pressure sensor (4). The method comprises the steps that pressure in the fluid path is measured in a pumping process, a pressure value obtained finally is processed, and a function state is provided according to the processed pressure value.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of an invention patent application whose applicant is a biotechnology company and whose application date is October 22, 2008. . technical field [0002] The present invention relates to medical pumping equipment, and more precisely to the detection of malfunctions of such equipment. Background technique [0003] The detection of malfunctions, especially in medical devices, is important because the life of a patient may depend on the correct functioning of the device. For example, in the case of infusion pumps, a potentially dangerous consequence of failure is typically over- or under-infusion of medication to the patient. [0004] Examples of malfunctions are leaks, blockages or the presence of air bubbles in the pumping lines. [0005] State-of-the-art devices and methods for detecting malfunctions in medical devices are eg disclosed in the following patent documents: US2008 / 214979, EP1762263 and US7104763. [0006] Det...
