The method comprises following steps: obtaining an instruction of text data of playing files executed on a display background of a current display interface of a mobile terminal; determining icon gap regions of the current display interface according to an instruction, wherein the icon gap region is a display region besides an application icon in the display interface; and displaying text data of playing files executed on the background through the icon gap regions on the current display interface. The data display method and the mobile terminal have following beneficial effects: by utilizing icon gap regions between all application icons, text data to be displayed is displayed on the display interface so that the application icons corresponding to text data are not shielded; and mis-operation caused by shielding application icons is avoided.
