Embodiment Construction

[0034]The present application provides a system and method that automatically creates a discovery-centric longitudinal view of a patient by extracting measurements and image references from radiology reports and recording the measurements and image references on previous radiology reports. Specifically, measurements and image references are recorded on the radiology report to create a discovery-centric longitudinal view of the patient that is used to establish the clinical context and facilitate direct navigation to corresponding key images, resulting in increased workflow efficiency. The present application also provides a system and method for extracting narrative content from previous radiology reports to identify findings that have been identified on previous examinations and / or to identify whether a finding has been previously diagnosed. The present application also provides a system and method that provides an assessment of the pitch variation of measured findings in prev...

Abstract

A system for creating a longitudinal view of patient findings includes a natural language processing engine that extracts clinical findings from clinical documents. The temporal resolution engine determines to which other clinical documents a clinical finding belongs. A visual graphical user interface indicates a correlation of clinical findings between the clinical document and other clinical documents. A natural language processing engine also links one or more images to clinical findings.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application generally relates to the automatic creation of findings-centric longitudinal views of patient findings. This application finds particular use in connection with extracting measurements and image references from declarative radiology reports and recording measurements and image references on other radiology reports and will be described with particular reference thereto. However, it should be understood that the present application is also applicable to other usage scenarios and is not necessarily limited to the above-mentioned applications. Background technique [0002] On a routine basis, radiologists handle a growing body of research to best diagnose and treat patients. Patients, especially those with cancer, undergo imaging examinations frequently, and accumulate many studies over time, and thus report in their medical records. Whenever a new study needs to be read, the radiologist typically opens one or more previous repor...
