Problems solved by technology

[0011] However, since cold air flows through a plurality of ducts when ice cubes are made using an ice maker in the above-mentioned refrigerator, the efficiency of the refrigerator unit may become small
That is, since cold air flows to the ice maker via the cool air supply duct, and then flows from the ice maker to the refrigerator compartment via the cool air return duct, the efficiency of supplying cold air to the refrigerator unit may be less than optimal.
[0012] Also, due to the cold air, frost may develop in the cold air supply ducts and cold air return ducts
When the cold air supply ducts and cold air return ducts are not adequately defrosted, cold air may not be effectively supplied to the ice making unit and refrigerator compartment, partly due to blockages
This may cause the problem that excess power is wasted during the operation of the refrigerator unit to overcome the effect of frosting

Abstract

Ice making system and method for a refrigerator is disclosed. The ice making system includes an ice making unit that makes ice cubes; a cold air generator unit that cools air inside a cooling duct so as to produce cold air, a cold air circulation unit that supplies the cold air from the cold air generator to the ice making unit and discharges the cold air from the ice making unit to the cold air generator, and a drainage unit that drains defrost water produced from the cooling duct to an outside.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority from Korean Patent Application No. 10-2015-0085276 filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Office on Jun. 16, 2015, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The invention relates to an ice making system and method for a refrigerator. Background technique [0004] A refrigerator unit is a device that functions to store food at a low temperature. The refrigerator unit may store food in a frozen state or in a refrigerated state according to the type of food to be stored. [0005] The interior of the refrigerator unit is cooled by cold air continuously supplied to the refrigerator unit. Cool air is continuously generated through a heat exchange operation between air and refrigerant performed in a refrigeration cycle. The cycle includes the sequential processes of compression, condensation, expansion and evaporation. The cold air sup...
