The invention concerns a method for starting a hybrid motor vehicle comprising a heat engine (2) transmitting torque via a clutch (4), an electric traction machine (10) powered by a battery (12) delivering the torque of same without transmitting this torque via the clutch, a method for calculating the maximum allowed power delivered by the battery (12) depending on the state of charge of same, andcomprising a method for evaluating the torque that can be transmitted by the clutch (4), this method being characterised in that, when the starting of the vehicle requires the clutch (4) to slip, ifthe torque that can be transmitted by the clutch (4) is detected to be lower than a torque necessary in order to start this vehicle, and a maximum allowed power of the battery (12) is lower than the maximum possible power of same, it allows the battery (12) to deliver a power greater than the maximum allowed power.
