Embodiment Construction

[0036] 1A and 1B are explanatory views of an optical disc cartridge as an embodiment of an optical recording medium according to the present invention. Figure 1A shows the front side of the cartridge, while Figure 1B shows the rear side of the cartridge. On the front side of the optical disc cartridge 10 in FIG. 1A , a shutter 14 is slidably provided on the upper portion of the cartridge main body 12 , and a shutter slider 16 is taken out on the left side of the shutter 14 . On the rear side of the optical disc cartridge 10 in FIG. 1B , a tooth 18 for preventing wrong insertion is formed in the upper right corner portion of the cartridge main body 12 . An insertion slot 20 is provided below the tooth 18 . In addition, a clamp groove 22 is formed on the lower edge side. A write protector 24 is provided in the lower portion on the rear side of the holder groove 22 . The size of the optical disc cartridge 10 conforms to the size and shape of, for example, a 90 mm optical disc ...

Abstract

In a rewritable optical recording medium, a recording surface is divided into a plurality of zones by setting pitch intervals in the radial direction to be constant and a data area and a spare area for a defective sector are allocated in each zone. As for a capacity of the spare area in each zone, a predetermined total capacity of spare areas is allocated so that a spare ratio K = D1 / D2 of a capacity D2 of the spare areas for a capacity D1 of the data areas becomes almost the same in the zones.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a recording medium in which a spare area for replacing a defective sector is properly arranged, and to a storage device. More specifically, the present invention relates to a recording medium in which a recording surface is divided into a plurality of areas each of which provides an alternate area, and to a storage device. Background technique [0002] Hitherto, as rewritable recording media for optically recording and reproducing information, a magneto-optical recording medium and a phase-change recording medium are known. In a magneto-optical recording medium, a magnetic material is used for a recording film, heating by light and magnetization change by a magnetic field is used for recording, and a magneto-optical effect is used for reproduction. In a phase-change recording medium, temperature degrees according to a power difference by heating by light are used for recording, and reflection changes according to the c...
