Abstract

A server / client system for processing data includes a network having a web server with information accessible remotely. A client device includes a microphone and a rendering component such as a speaker or display. The client device is configured to obtain the information from the web server and record input data associated with fields contained in the information. The client device is adapted to send the input data to a remote location with an indication of a grammar to use for recognition. A recognition server receives the input data and the indication of the grammar. The recognition server returns data indicative of what was recognized to at least one of the client and the web server.

Description

Background technique [0001] The present invention relates to accessing information over a wide area network such as the Internet. In particular, the present invention relates to WEB-enabled recognition that will allow information and control to be entered on the client using various methods. [0002] Small computing devices such as personal information managers (PIMs), appliances, and cellular phones are increasingly used in people's daily lives. Along with the increase in the processing power of the microprocessors now available to run these devices, the functionality of these devices is also increasing, and in some cases being integrated. For example, many of today's cellular phones can be used to access and browse the Internet as well as to store personal information such as addresses, phone numbers, and the like. [0003] Since these computing devices have been used to browse the Internet, or in other server / client configurations, it is necessary to enter information int...
