Embodiment Construction

[0023] An embodiment of the FED applied to the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0024] Such as figure 1 and figure 2 As shown, the FED includes a front substrate 2 and a rear substrate 1 formed of rectangular glass plates facing each other with a gap of 1-2 mm therebetween. The respective peripheral portions of the front substrate 2 and the rear substrate 1 are bonded to each other by side walls 3 in a rectangular frame shape, thereby forming a flat, rectangular vacuum envelope 4 whose inner surface is held at 10 -4 Under high vacuum of Pa or lower.

[0025] A phosphor screen 6 is formed on the inner surface of the front substrate 2 . As will be mentioned later, the phosphor screen 6 has phosphor layers respectively emitting red, green and blue light and a light shielding layer of a matrix structure. A metal back layer 7 serving as an anode layer is formed on the phosphor screen 6 . A given anode voltage i...

Abstract

A front substrate of an image display device comprises a phosphor screen (6), a metal back layer lapped on the phosphor screen and having a plurality of divided regions (7a) spaced from one another, a common electrode (24) which applies voltage to the metal back layer, and a plurality of connecting resistors (30) which connect the common electrode and the plurality of divided regions of the metal back layer. A plurality of electron emitting elements which emit electrons toward the phosphor screen are arranged on a rear substrate (1) opposed to the front substrate. The common electrode is covered by a coat member (32) having a sheet resistance higher than that of the connecting resistors.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an image display device, and more particularly, to a planar image display device using electron-emitting devices. Background technique [0002] In recent years, various flat image display devices have been developed as next-generation image display devices in which a large number of electron-emitting devices are arranged side by side and toward a phosphor display screen. Although there are various types of electron emission devices, they all basically use field emission. Display devices using these electron emission devices are generally called field emission displays (FEDs). Among these FEDs, a display device using a surface conduction electron-emitting device is also called a surface conduction electron-emitting display (SED). However, in the specification, the term "FED" is used as a generic term for devices including SEDs. [0003] In general, a FED includes a front substrate and a rear substrate facing each othe...
