This invention provides a method for inducing
chromosome doubling in rice using
ammonia-sulfuron-methyl and its application, belonging to the field of rice breeding technology. In this invention, after culturing
callus tissue from rice seeds or embryos, the
callus tissue is inoculated into a doubling medium containing 0.005 g / L
ammonia-sulfuron-methyl for further culture. Following
recovery culture, differentiation culture, and rooting culture, root tips are taken from the plants, and
chromosome counting is performed under a
microscope. Plants with doubled
chromosome numbers are selected as tetraploid rice. Compared to the
colchicine-induced chromosome doubling method, this method is more efficient and
safer. The successful development of this method provides a new approach for rice breeding and new variety creation.
