Embodiment Construction

[0031] High-level system architecture

[0032] Figure 1A The block diagram of the high-level system 100 of an exemplary picoCell system is illustrated, focusing on the integration of the picocell system in the entire mobile network. The pico cell module 104 includes one or more pico base station transceivers (picoBTS) 108, 112, and 116, which are functionally and / or electrically connected to a pico base station controller (picoBSC) 120. The picoluster 120 receives accurate timing information from a timing source 124 such as the GPS receiver shown in FIG. 1.

[0033] The pico cluster 120 can then communicate with various devices and / or components. For example, the pico cluster 120 may communicate with the softswitch 128. The softswitch 128 can then convert the data into the IS-41 protocol to communicate with the high-level register (HLR) 132 or the mobile switching center (MSC) 136. The pico cluster 120 can also communicate with a media gateway 140, which in turn communicates wit...

Abstract

What is required is a method and apparatus for communicating between at least one base station and a core network in a wireless communication system. Signaling messages and voice streams are carried using the Packet Switching Protocol (IP). At least one Voice over IP flow is identified using the CIC field (Circuit Identification Code). The CIC field can be interpreted as the UDP port number of the voice IP stream. Furthermore, a synchronization source or contribution source field of an RTP header may be used as the CIC field.

Description

[0001] Cross-references to related applications [0002] This application claims the priority of the U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 403,807 filed on August 14, 2002, which is still under examination, entitled "CoreNetwork Interoperability In A Pico Cell System", and is hereby incorporated by reference. Insert the content of the provisional patent application. Technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to an apparatus and method for providing infrastructure in a wireless communication system. More specifically, the present invention relates to an IP-based (Internet Protocol-based) cdma 2000 base station. Background technique [0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various forms of communication, such as voice, data, packet data, and so on. These systems may be multiple-access systems capable of supporting sequential or simultaneous communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources. Examples of su...
