Embodiment approach

[0270] All reported percentages are by weight unless otherwise indicated.

Embodiment 1

[0273] Composite pads of foam and SAP prepared from dispersion 1 using drying method 1

[0274] Foam samples were made into underpads using Dispersion 1 and using Drying Method 1. The foam samples had a thickness of 6.35 mm or 3.18 mm and were cut to a size of 10.16 cm x 21.59 cm. 7.68 grams of Polymer B was then distributed in the flat bottom mat by spreading it on the stainless steel form. A three-dimensional open cell polypropylene foam sheet of the same size as the foam pad (3.18 mm and 6.35 mm pad in Table 3) approximately 150 microns thick was placed on top of the resulting SAP micro-islands. In one experiment, thin polypropylene fiber mats (fibermat) were inserted into polypropylene sheets (6.35 mm "Mats with fiber mats" in Table 3). By spreading about 1 g of 6 mm polypropylene fibers (6 mm long AL-Adhesive-CFIBERVISION TM polypropylene fibers) to prepare the thin layer of fiber tufts. will FIBERVISION TM The fibers were spread on a Teflon cloth with a size of appr...

Embodiment 2

[0281] SAP fines / foam composite mat prepared from dispersion 1 using drying method 1

[0282] Using Dispersion 1 and using Drying Method 1, foam samples were prepared. The foam had a thickness of 3.18 mm and was cut to a size of 10.16 cm x 21.59 cm. Unsurface-treated SAP fines or surface-treated SAP fines (Polymer C) (7.68 grams) were distributed in the underpad by spreading a stainless steel template on the foam surface without microcavities. A three-dimensional open-cell polypropylene foam sheet approximately 150 microns thick, as long and wide as the foam pad, was placed on top of the resulting SAP micro-islands. Compress the sandwiched foam pad containing the SAP microislands in the middle layer using a 3.18 mm thick spacer at a pressure of 2 MT and a temperature of 75 °C for 1 min. The samples were subjected to bracket tests for absorption, dewetting and wicking length. The results are summarized in Table 4.

Abstract

A microcavity-containing, resilient foam comprising a thermoplastic polymer; composite structures comprising such a microcavity-containing foam and a multiplicity of particles contained in such microcavities, preferably aqueous fluid absorbent particles; methods for preparation of such foam and structures; and disposable consumer articles incorporating such foams and composites. The aqueous fluid absorbent characteristics of the foam and composite structures render them useful in the fabrication of disposable consumer articles, in particular hygiene articles designed to rapidly absorb 'insults' of bodily fluid thereby conducting such fluids away from contact with the skin of the wearer of the hygiene article. The useful articles include infant and children diapers, adult incontinence pants, feminine hygiene pads, pet urine-absorbent pads and mats, household cleaning pads, surgical drapery, and the like.

Description
