The method for out-of-band upgrading comprises the following steps: switching a firmware chip onto a firmware upgrading controller through an isolation switching circuit; and upgrading the firmware chip through the firmware upgrading controller. The out-of-band upgrading system comprises a south bridge chip, the firmware chip, the isolation switching circuit and the firmware upgrading controller, wherein the isolation switching circuit is used for switching the firmware chip onto the firmware upgrading controller; and the firmware upgrading controller is used for upgrading the firmware chip.
