The invention discloses a second order difference predictive encoding method, which comprises the following steps of: A) performing second order operation on a parameter value with a continuously relative property of multimedia streams; and B) attaching a second order operation result serving as a new parameter value of the property to a data packet of the multimedia streams. The invention also discloses a streaming media file format applying the second order difference predictive encoding method and a method for positioning a streaming media file. By adopting the second order difference predictive encoding method provided by the invention, the data volume of each path of multimedia streams (mainly refer to audio streams and video streams) is greatly lowered and the using efficiency of a limited bandwidth is greatly improved. The second order difference predictive encoding method is very suitable for transmitting multimedia streams on a small-bandwidth network.
