Embodiment Construction

[0034] As noted above, one problem with this duplex operation is the time delay that occurs as pages traverse the duplex path. More specifically, letter or A4 size pages are usually duplexed two pages at a time in a larger format printing press, such as a printing press capable of A3 or tabloid size printing. Thus, in a common perfecting process, side A of two pages is printed, the two pages are flipped over, and side B of the two pages is printed. The pair of double-sided pages is then output, followed by duplex printing of the next pair of pages. Sides A and B with respect to a media sheet represent front and back respectively in one instance and back and front in another instance, but are substantially identical in each instance.

[0035] Embodiments of the present invention provide an improved throughput printing method for offset perfecting printing that alternates the media path input to the media feed path between the first side new media sheet feed path and the flip s...

Abstract

A method/printer prints images on an 'A' side of a first sheet of media and on an 'A' side of a second sheet of media in a single full transfer rotation of a drum. The method then prints images on the B side of the first sheet and on an A side of a third sheet in a single full transfer rotation of the drum. Similarly, the method prints images on the B side of the second sheet and on an A side of a fourth sheet in a single full transfer rotation of the drum. This method then prints images on the B side of the third sheet and the B side of the fourth sheet in a single full transfer rotation of the drum.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to printing devices and more particularly to printing devices that modify the sequence of image generation within duplex operations. Background technique [0002] Competitive pressures require the fastest possible printing speeds, while at the same time prices must be maintained or reduced. Cost-effective methods and hardware solutions have been implemented in past products. Further improvements are difficult, but the need is always there. [0003] Advances included in some modern offset imaging equipment such as printing presses, MFPs, all-in-ones, and similar devices may involve multi-image perfecting presses, which have the ability to generate (jet) two or more images or pages simultaneously . With multi-image perfecting presses, multiple images jetted onto an offset image-receiving surface can be transferred to multiple pages of media in a single transfer cycle. For example, marking material or ink, such ...
