no. 1 approach

[0066] A first embodiment according to the present invention provides a method of performing a ranging process, wherein a transmission point of a ranging confirmation message is determined based on a time point at which a base station receives a ranging preamble from a mobile station.

[0067] Hereinafter, the process of performing the handover ranging process according to the embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail.

[0068] First, the mobile station selects a ranging channel (ie, a ranging opportunity) from among a plurality of ranging channels assigned to the x-th frame. Next, the mobile station sends a handover ranging preamble through the selected ranging channel.

[0069] The base station that receives the handover ranging preamble through the corresponding handover ranging opportunity of the xth frame starts at the time set for the handover ranging process from the xth frame (hereinafter referred to as "delay") HO_RNG_ACK ’) elapsed or at the po...

no. 2 approach

[0128] In the second embodiment of the present invention, the time point at which the AAI_RNG-ACK message is transmitted as a response to the ranging preamble transmitted from the mobile station is defined, and efficient initial ranging processing is performed by the defined time point .

[0129] Hereinafter, an initial ranging process according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail.

[0130] First, in the Xth frame, the mobile station sends an initial ranging preamble to the base station through a ranging opportunity randomly selected from a plurality of ranging opportunities for initial ranging purposes.

[0131] When at least one initial ranging preamble is detected from the corresponding frame, the base station sets a predetermined time for initial ranging (for simplicity, hereafter referred to as delay INITIAL_RNG_ACK ) to send an AAI_RNG-ACK message according to the Xth frame before it expires.

[0132] At this time, delay INITIAL_RNG_A...

Abstract

A broadband wireless access system and, more particularly, a method for a mobile station and a base station to perform an efficient ranging procedure considering a ranging purpose and a device for performing the same are disclosed herein. A method of a mobile station for performing ranging in a broadband wireless access system, the method includes the steps of transmitting a first ranging preamble code for requesting ranging to a base station through a first ranging opportunity of a first frame, and, when a first message is received from the base station before a timer indicating a limited time point is expired, wherein the first message including a response to the first ranging preamble code is transmitted during the limited time point, determining whether or not the ranging request is successfully made by using the first message.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a broadband wireless access system, and more particularly, to a method of performing efficient ranging processing in consideration of ranging purposes for mobile stations and base stations, and an apparatus for performing the method. Background technique [0002] Main standards established by the IEEE 802.16 working group include IEEE 802.16-2004 called Fixed WiMAX and IEEE 802.16e-2005 (hereinafter referred to as 16e) called Mobile WiMAX. IEEE finally passed IEEE 802.16e-2005 in December 2005. The latest versions of Mobile WiMAX technology are based on including IEEE 802.16-2004, IEEE 802.16e-2005 (this document is included in the errata of IEEE 802.16-2004) and IEEE 802.16-2004 / Errata / D8. Currently, the standardization process of IEEE 80116m for next-generation mobile WiMAX is being carried out by TGm within the IEEE 802.16 working group. [0003] Among the processing steps of performing the first (initial) network ...
