The method for researching the pollution flashover characters of the natural pollutant retention insulator is characterized by comprising the following steps of: separating the natural pollutant retention insulators acquired from the same base iron tower into two parts, wherein one part is used for the test analysis of surface equivalent salt deposit density and dust density, and the other part is used for a pollution flashover test; for considering the loss of partial pollutants positioned on the surfaces of the insulators in a pollution flashover process, correcting the pollution degree test data of the insulators after the insulators are subjected to the pollution flashover test; and carrying out regression analysis on the data of pollution flashover voltage, equivalent salt deposit density, whole wafer dust density and the equivalent salt deposit density ratio of upper and lower surfaces on the basis.
