System and method for a negative acknowledgement-based transmission control protocol

A system and method for transmitting data in a data communications network, using a transmission control protocol, to provide reduced acknowledgment control traffic, error recovery and congestion control. A communications link is established between a transmitter and a receiver. Setting the communications link includes setting a network congestion window to an initial length. A sequence, or stream, of data packets is sent from the transmitter to the receiver. The receiver detects any missing packets, by examining the sequence numbers of the incoming packets, and sends negative acknowledgments, generally no more than four, to the transmitter identifying the missing data packet. When the transmitter receives a negative acknowledgment, it decreases the length of the congestion window, and re-transmits the missing packet. Detection and use of round-trip time, re-transmission time-out are provided.

Method for reducing latency in a solid-state memory system while maintaining data integrity

A latency reduction method for read operations of an array of N solid-state storage devices having n solid-state storage devices for data storage and p solid-state storage devices for storing parity data is provided. Utilizing the parity generation engine fault tolerance for a loss of valid data from at least two of the N solid-state storage devices, the integrity of the data is determined when N−1 of the solid-state storage devices have completed executing a read command. If the data is determined to be valid, the missing data of the Nth solid-state storage device is reconstructed and the data transmitted to the requesting processor. By that arrangement the time necessary for the Nth solid-state storage device to complete execution of the read command is saved, thereby improving the performance of the solid-state memory system.

Validating coherency between multiple data sets between database transfers

A user interface may be designed to receive conflicting data from multiple data sources during a merger of legacy computer systems. The interface automatically validates the conflicting data against each other to generate a final data set for review. Summary information for each data set can be displayed in a single interface such that the summary data sets are individually selectable and provide an overview of the data merger process for each data set. By drilling down through the summary data, the user interface can display individual data sets where data conflicts can be resolved, missing data can be provided, and duplicate data can be eliminated. When the merger process is complete, the interface can translate the data set into a standardized format that can be exported to form generation modules to generate, for example, a welcome letter based on the translated data set.

System and method for adaptive interpolation of images from patterned sensors

A adaptive filter interpolation method and system for the demosaicing of color images. In general, input pixels are input in a Bayer-mosaiced pattern (only one color per pixel), and output pixels are in full RGB mode (three color values per pixel). For each pixel location, in raster scan order, the processing steps can be summarized as follows. Following a regular raster scanning order (from left to right and top to bottom), for each pixel location horizontal and vertical gradients are first computed (whose computation depends on the available color for that pixel), and from those the appropriate interpolation filters are chosen from a small set of predetermined filters. Then, the chosen filters are applied to interpolate the missing data.

Apparatus for hardware-software classification of data packet flows

An apparatus for routing data packets includes a network interface, a memory, a general purpose processor and a flow classifier. The memory stores a flow structure. Every packet in one flow has identical values for a set of data fields in the packet. The memory stores instruction that cause the processor to receive missing flow data and to add the missing flow to the flow structure. The apparatus forwards a packet based on the flow. The flow classifier determines a particular flow and whether it is already stored in the flow structure. If not, then the classifier determines whether that flow has already been sent to the processor as missing data. If not, then the classifier stores into a different data structure data that indicates the flow has been sent to the processor but is not yet included in the flow data structure, and sends missing data to the processor.

Method for efficient guest operating system (OS) migration over a network

A method, data processing system and computer program product enables efficient transfer of a virtual machine from a first data processing system (DPS) to a second DPS using a combination of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Uniform Data Protocol (UDP). A virtual machine migration (VMM) utility identifies all memory pages of the first virtual machine. The VMM utility notifies the second DPS via TCP of the scheduled transfer of the virtual machine. The VMM utility copies and transfers the memory pages of the virtual machine to the second DPS via UDP. When all expected components of the virtual machine are not received by the second DPS and / or memory data is modified within the memory pages during the migration, the VMM utility combines the missing data and the modified data and transfers the final components of the virtual machine using TCP. Execution of the virtual machine resumes on the second DPS.

Forward error correction for burst and random packet loss for real-time multi-media communication

This invention relates generally to a packet recovery algorithm for real-time (live) multi-media communication over packet-switched networks, such as the Internet. Such multi-media communication includes video, audio, data or any combination thereof. More specifically, the invention comprises a forward error correction (FEC) algorithm that addresses both random and burst packet loss and errors, and that can be adjusted to tradeoff the recoverability of missing packets and the latency incurred. The transmitter calculates parity packets for the rows, columns and diagonals of a block of multi-media data packets using the exclusive or (XOR) operation and communicates the parity packets along with the multi-media data packets to the receiver. The receiver uses the parity packets to recover missing multi-media data packets in the block. The FEC algorithm is designed to be able to recover long bursts of consecutive missing data packets. If some parity packets are missing, they too can be recovered using an extra single parity packet, so that they can be used to recover other missing data packets. The invention applies to both one-way real-time streaming applications and two-way real-time interactive applications, and to both wired and wireless networks. The invention retains backwards compatibility with existing standards governing FEC for professional video over IP networks.

Method and Apparatus of Slice Boundary Filtering for High Efficiency Video Coding

An apparatus and method for video coding having intra-slice deblocking, intra-slice adaptive loop filter, and intra-slice adaptive offset are disclosed. In a video coding system, a picture is often divided into slices and each slice is independently processed so that errors or missing data from one slice cannot propagate to any other slice within the picture. In the recent high efficiency video coding (HEVC) development, deblock filtering (DF), adaptive loop filter (ALF) and adaptive offset (AO) may be applied to reconstructed slices. When the processing is applied across slice boundaries, it may rely on pixels outside the current slice and cause dependency of the current slice on other slice(s). Consequently, the DF / ALF / AO processing on a reconstructed slice may have to wait until the reconstructed slices that it is dependent from complete the DF / ALF / AO processing. To overcome the slice boundary issue, intra-slice DF / ALF / AO is developed that does not rely on any pixel outside the currently slice. An optional slice boundary filter may be applied to slice boundaries after all slices are processed by the intra-slice DF / ALF / AO.

Data Recovery for Defective Word Lines During Programming of Non-Volatile Memory Arrays

The recovery of data during programming, such as in the case of a broken word-line, is considered. The arrangement described assumes that k pages may be corrupted when the system finishes programming a block. Then these corrupted pages can be recovered using an erasure code. In order to recover any k pages, the system will compute and temporarily store k parity pages in the controller. These k parity pages may be computed on-the-fly as the data pages are received from the host. Once programming of the block is finished, a post-write read may be done in order to validate that the data is stored reliably. If no problem is detected during EPWR, then the parity pages in the controller may be discarded. In case a problem is detected, and data in up to k pages is corrupt on some bad word-lines, then the missing data is recovered using the k parity pages that are stored in the controller and using the other non-corrupted pages that are read from the block of the memory array and decoded. Once the recovery is complete the block can be reprogrammed and the temporary parity pages in the controller may be discarded upon successfully reprogramming.
