Embodiment Construction

[0017] according to figure 1 , in NMR humidity measurement, a uniform DC (direct current) magnetic field is generated by the magnet 2 into the sample 1 to be measured, and then the interaction of this magnetic field with the hydrogen in the sample 1 results in a small amount of magnetization in the sample 1. Next, the sample 1 is exposed to a short, intense radio frequency (RF) excitation pulse 3 generated by a transmitter / receiver 5 ( figure 2 and image 3 ), which excites the hydrogen nuclei. In a next step, the measuring device records the NMR signal over a period counted in milliseconds (called free induction decay or FID). During this time, some parts of the sample undergo NMR relaxation and return to their original state. Signal amplitude 10( figure 2 ) is proportional to the total amount of hydrogen in the water in the sample. Therefore, the maximum value of the NMR signal defines the moisture content. In practice, this maximum value 10 is usually extrapolated f...

Abstract

The invention relates to an NMR method for determining the moisture content of a sample (1), in which the sample (1) is made the subject of a DC magnetic field; the sample (1) under the DC magnetic field is made to have a pulse interval (T3) object of sequence (2) of excitation pulses (3) at RF frequency to excite hydrogen nuclei; and measuring NMR signals of the excited hydrogen nuclei. According to the present invention, the spin-lattice relaxation time (T1) of the sample (1) is estimated, and the pulse interval (T3) is adjusted to be greater than the estimated spin-lattice relaxation time (T1).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for adapting the pulse interval in NMR-based water content measurements. [0002] The invention also relates to a device for adapting the pulse interval in NMR-based water content measurements. Background technique [0003] NMR techniques (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) have been used to determine the moisture content of materials. Such a system is described, for example, in FR 2786567. Existing systems are bulky and expensive, and are therefore rarely used in commercial applications. Contents of the invention [0004] It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel NMR-based water content measurement that overcomes at least some of the problems of the prior art described above. [0005] The invention is based on the concept of using a pulse sequence in which the rate of pulses is optimized for the different moisture levels of the sample to be measured. The optimization is advantageously based on an esti...
