The method includes the following steps that according to medium types of storage media in the storage system, each storage medium is divided into at least two storage layers; according to data types of data objects, the data objects are stored in corresponding storage layers. By means of layer data storage, the method and the system are applied to a distributed file system, automatic layer storage of data and automatic migration of data are supported, data storage cost can be greatly reduced, and storage efficiency is improved.
