Abstract

The invention relates to the field of the communication technology, especially to a method for realizing a rapid on-line operation of a cable modem. A front-end CMTS and a cable modem are arranged and bidirectional network communication is realized by an HFC. The method comprises: the cable modem obtains a US ID list and sends a ranging request; the cable modem selects a US ID; the cable modem transmits an uplink level value; the CMTS compares the received level value with a preset receiving level value; if the received level value meets the set received level value, the ranging is done successfully and an IP address is obtained; and if ranging of the whole US ID list is not done successfully, a responding US ID is employed preferentially. The invention aims at providing a method for realizing a rapid on-line operation of a cable modem to overcome a defect of low on-line operation of the cable modem in prior art. A rapid on-line effect is realized by accelerating a ranging speed of a cable modem; inconvenience of the user is reduced; and the service quality of the network operator is improved.
