Embodiment Construction

[0076] Embodiments of the invention relate to a method for identifying and / or authenticating an individual 1 by Figure 4 The system 100 for identifying and / or authenticating an individual shown in FIG.

[0077] Such a system 100 comprises an image capture device 2 dedicated to acquiring biometric data used to identify or authenticate an individual 1 . Such biometric data may include, inter alia, images of the eyes of the individual 1 . The image capture device 2 can include, in particular, a camera unit or a camera for capturing images in the visible light field or in the infrared field.

[0078] The system 100 also includes a storage device 3 . Such a storage device is configured to store: at least one binary code obtained from a reference iris image, of a reference iris divided into a first predetermined number N1 of concentric rings, and for which eyelids, eyelashes, reflections or other noise have been detected The region of the source reference iris is identified with...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for identifying or authenticating an individual comprising the following steps implemented by a system comprising a storage device storing at least a binary code of a reference iris and a binary code of mask: obtaining an image (101) of an eye of an individual; segmenting the acquired eye image so as to isolate a region containing the texture of the iris and determining an associated mask (102); dividing the region containing the iris texture and the associated mask into N2 concentric rings (103); normalizing the region containing the texture of the iris and the mask of Cartesian coordinates into polar coordinates (104); determining an iris binary code IC with a size equal to N2*P*F and an associated mask bit code IM (105) by applying Gabor filters F to P positions of each ring; mapping at least one ring of the acquired image iris with a ring of the reference iris, so as to minimize a matching distance (HD Viterbi) between the acquired image and the reference image, the matching distance (106) being obtained from the determined iris and stored reference codes and associated mask codes by calculating a sum of distances (Dist) between each of said rings of the iris of the matched acquired image and the ring of the reference iris corresponding thereto, calculating the minimized correspondence distance (107), and identifying or authenticating the individual (108) if the minimized matching distance is less than a predetermined threshold.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an improved method of biometric identification or authentication by iris recognition. Background technique [0002] In order to compare an individual iris with iris data stored in a reference database, the individual iris must be digitally represented. A commonly used process for this is the method disclosed by Daugman (US5291560). Such as figure 1 As shown, the process provides an eye image to be analyzed that is segmented to isolate image portions corresponding to individual irises. In order to compare this image portion with the reference iris data, the iris region to be analyzed can be cut into a certain number of angular regions and then radially into a certain number of rings, as in figure 2 shown. [0003] In order to efficiently compare the iris to be analyzed with the reference iris without considering the variable dilation depending on the excitation conditions, the iris image to be analyzed can be normal...
