Embodiment Construction

[0054] The collapsible container disclosed herein has different embodiments, each of which is within the scope of the invention. However, in order to ensure that those skilled in the art will be able to understand and appropriately practice the invention, some preferred embodiments of the invention, which are broader than those disclosed herein, are described below.

[0055] More specifically, turning to the drawings, a collapsible container according to the present invention is Figure 1 to Figure 12 Generally expressed by 10. The collapsible container 10 shown in the figures may have particular application as a cup. However, it should be understood that other types of containers are also within the scope of the claims, unless they may be expressly limited. The collapsible container 10 can be used as Figure 1 to Figure 6 The expansion or use configuration shown is the same as Figure 9 to Figure 12 Reconstitution between the folded configurations shown.

Abstract

A collapsible vessel (10) reconfigurable between expanded and collapsed configurations. A sleeve combination (12) has an inner sleeve (16) rotatable relative to an outer sleeve (14). A liner (18) is retained by the sleeve combination (12). The sleeves (14, 16) have opposed major walls (44, 46, 52, 54) divided by opposed fold line formations (45, 49, 53, 57). Arrays of flexion apertures (66, 68) span a lateral range from adjacent to the respective fold line formation (45, 49, 53, 57) toward a central portion of the major wall (44, 46, 52, 54), and an aperture density can vary generally based ondistance from the fold line formation (45, 49, 53, 57) to promote a true-round confirmation of the expanded vessel (10). A lid structure (28) with a disk (30) and opposed retaining tabs (36) can be selectively engaged with the liner (18), and a retaining strap (20) can be pivotally coupled to the sleeve combination (12) with a first orientation encircling the sleeve combination (12) and a second, longitudinal orientation. A storage bag (70) with first and second longitudinally-disposed stays (82, 84) can receive and further compress the vessel (10).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to collapsible containers. More specifically, disclosed herein is a collapsible container, such as a drinking glass, that is selectively convertible from an expanded in-use configuration to a collapsed flat configuration by rotation of an outer sleeve relative to an inner sleeve. Background technique [0002] There is a well-recognized need for containers, such as cups, that facilitate efficient use and reuse, that can be stored and transported conveniently. Typical disposable cups are usually limited to one-time use, after which they will be thrown away, which is wasteful and not environmentally friendly. Glass, ceramic, and other non-disposable containers can be washed and reused, however, they are often not practical for storage and transport during travel. Thus, the portability, usability and convenience of prior art drinking glasses and other containers are significantly limited. [0003] A number of skil...
