Problems solved by technology

Reduced energy expenditure may be associated with impaired protein and micronutrient status and may lead to subclinical deficits that directly affect function
Most nutritional interventions in older adults fail to compensate for loss of taste and smell and discomfort
For example, cancer is a medical condition in which conventional nutritional interventions (which do not compensate for loss of taste and smell) are ineffective

[0845] Example 2 - Blood and Brain Absorption of Insulin

[0846] exist Figure 76A-C , compared the efficacy of delivering insulin to the brain for the SipNose device versus IV administration. The substance was insulin lispro (5,807 Da) administered to rabbits. Four rabbits were used; all animals were given 0.5 U / kg of human insulin. Administration was via IV for rabbits 1 and 3 and SipNose nasal administration for rabbits 2 and 4. Brain concentrations were measured using an insulin quantification ELISA.

[0847] exist Figure 76A-C The experimental results are shown in . Figure 76A Concentrations of insulin in the blood of two animals given by IV administration (1 and 3) and two animals given by nasal administration using the SipNose device (2 and 4) are shown. Figure 76B shows the amount of insulin in the frontal part of the brain of four animals, and Figure 76C The amount of insulin in the posterior part of the brain of the same four animals is shown.

Abstract

A device for delivering a predetermined amount of a substance within at least one body cavity of a subject, wherein the predetermined amount is at an effective amount for treatment of obesity or binge eating disorder. The device comprises: (a) A volume to contain the predetermined amount of the substance, (b) A delivery end placeable in proximity to the body cavity. The delivery end is in fluid communication with the volume and comprises at least one orifice, (c) A valve mechanically connected to the volume, with at least two configurations: (i) an active configuration configured to deliver the predetermined amount of the substance; and, (ii) an inactive configuration, in which the valve prevents delivery of the predetermined amount of the substance, (d) A fluid tight chamber configured to contain a predetermined volume of pressurized gas at a predetermined pressure.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to systems for delivering aerosolized substances to natural orifices of the body. Background technique [0002] In the pharmaceutical and therapeutic field, nasal delivery is a known and accepted delivery route that can provide solutions for a variety of therapeutic and medical indications. [0003] Prior art nasal delivery devices present difficulties with dose control, delivery accuracy, drug storage, and therapy with multiple drugs. In nasal and aerosol delivery of drugs, metered dose delivery is common, where a fixed dose is released per activation. For metered dose delivery, each delivery device is designed to deliver a specific, constant dose per activation. In some therapeutic areas, different dosages are required for each patient, and sometimes even for each therapeutic treatment of the same patient. For example: For the pediatric population, the dosage usually has to be based on the patient's weight. ...
